THIS IS A REMARKABLE COLLECTION
OF CHROMOLITHOGRAPHS
PRODUCED IN 1867 BY OWEN JONES UNDER THE TITLE OF
'CHINESE ORNAMENTS' IN THE SOUTH KENSINGTON MUSEUM.
JONES WAS WELL KNOWN FOR HIS DESIGNS OF THE CRYSTAL PALACE
AND THE ST. JAMES HALL IN LONDON, AS WELL AS HIS POSITION AS
SUPERINTENDANT OF THE LONDON EXHIBITION IN 1851.
THESE PRINTS ARE HIGHLY DECORATED
IN AN UNIQUE CHINESE STYLE
WHICH, LATER IN ART HISTORICAL PERIODS, WOULD PLAY AN IMPORTANT
ROLL IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE ARTS AND CRAFTS MOVEMENT AND ALSO
THE .
ART DECO MOVEMENT OF THE 1920S TO 1930S. WE CAN SEE HOW WILLIAM
MORRIS
WAS INSPIRED BY THE ORIENTAL MOTIF. THESE PRINTS ARE EVEN MORE
BEAUTIFUL
THAN THE SCANNER CAN DISPLAY.
THEY ARE MOUNTED TO A SIZE OF ABOUT 12" X 16" AND ARE PRICED AT C$125.
SINCE JUNE 1,1999
