LES ORCHIDEE
HENRY LAMBERT PRODUCED THIS REMARKABLE PORTFOLIO OF LARGE
ORCHID PRINTS IN THE YEAR 1900. THE 20 PRINTS IN THIS COLLECTION
ARE SETS OF ONE OR TWO ORCHIDS PER PLATE, WITHOUT VIGNETTE.
THE COLOURS ARE REALISTIC AND THE IMAGES ARE TRUE TO THE PLANTS.
THE PRINTING PROCESS IS COMPLEX, TERMED CHROMOTYPOGRAVURE,
WHERE THE IMAGE WAS BURNED INTO A TREATED ZINC PLATE AND
THEN PRINTED IN COLOUR.
THESE PRINTS ARE LARGE, 13" X 20-1/2" AND EACH IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. ALL PRINTED ON A VERY PALE MIMOSA GROUND, ACCENTUATING THE
GENTLENESS OF EACH ORCHID. THE SCIENTIFIC NAMES ARE GIVEN BELOW
THE IMAGES, LETTERED BY HAND ONTO THE PLATE.
OVERALL, THIS COLLECTION IS A MASTERPIECE OF THE ART NOUVEAU STYLE.
IT IS OF NOTE THAT THIS SERIES IS FOUND IN THE CHICAGO BOTANICAL GARDENS COLLECTION AT THE LENHARDT LIBRARY.
THESE PRINTS ARE VERY RARE, 13" X 20-1/2", PRINTED ONTO HIGH
QUALITY CARD STOCK, HOT PRESSED PAPER, EACH PRINT PRICED AT $550.
